Writing prompt: 3 story seeds and endings

Three story ideas and three different types of endings: use these to map out a story idea, write the final scenes, or both. Working backwards from a type of ending can generate surprising new ideas.

A Venetian glass-maker's secret dyes are worth killing for.  Ending: bittersweet. What happened?

Ferns bloom once a year, on Ivan Kupala night; the seed grants powers.  Ending: happy What happened?

The first book you read imprints your life's shape Ending: multiple. What happened?

For more on how to use endings to generate story events, read about the latest writers' seed packet, The Grand FinalĂ©: create a powerful, meaningful ending. For a great activity to flesh out a story idea, look at Premise Circles.
